Growing Toy Servo Model

At Hasbro, I was tasked with creating the first prototype for a toy that could dance and grow in height to about twice its size. This project presented challenges in creating a mechanism to capable of increasing size so much. I created CAD with nested components that could be lifted upwards to create height in the toy. The CAD and lifting system was successful and the toy was able to grow to twice its original height.

To create the look of dancing in this toy, I initially used servo motors, fabric, and a hoop to create a hoop skirt effect. This design was highly visually successful and received praise from the animatronics team, but it was not ideal for implementing on a larger production scale. Thus, the dancing mechanism was simplified, which reduced both the visual appeal and the complexity of the mechanism.

After creating the first prototype and dressing it in the desired fabric, the prototype was used for filming a pitch video to start the development of the project.
